European Council President Charles Michel has arrived in the Ukrainian capital Kiev. However, he did not announce the visit in advance. He set foot in Kiev on a surprise visit. An Al Jazeera report said.
He wrote from his Twitter account, Kiev today. He also referred to Ukraine as a free and democratic country in Europe. A picture of him with other people at a railway station was posted on Twitter.
Charles Michel was welcomed by Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Olga Stefanishina to Europe and Euro-Atlantic.
Russia, meanwhile, continues to attack Ukraine. The United States has said it will provide more military assistance to Ukraine to continue its fight against Russia. US President Joe Biden is expected to announce a military aid package to Ukraine soon.
The United States announced a 600 million aid package to Ukraine last week, according to local sources on Tuesday (April 19th). The same amount of aid may be announced again.
A U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said they were hoping to announce a military aid package. However, work is still going on about the size of the package.
The package recently announced by the Biden administration to assist Ukraine includes artillery systems, artillery rounds, armored vehicles, coastal defense boats and other necessary equipment.
