Russian troops give Ukrainian troops detained in Mariupol a “deadline” to surrender. On Tuesday, the Russian military announced that loyalists of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky must be prepared for “extreme consequences” if they do not surrender immediately.
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s forces have said that those who surrender by Tuesday afternoon will have their lives guaranteed. On Monday, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Schmihal said, “Mariupol was bombed by Russian forces, but did not fall!”
The southern Ukrainian port city of Mariupol did not surrender in the face of repeated Russian military attacks. Mariupol Mayor Badim Boychenko alleges that 90 percent of the city’s infrastructure has been destroyed by Russian forces in recent weeks.
