Abdul Malek, a former MP from Dhaka 20 constituency, claimed in a statement that he had supported the rebel candidate in the Dhamrai Upazila Parishad elections held on March 31, 2019. A video clip of the speech at the event has already gone viral on social media.
His remarks went viral on social media on Saturday (April 18) afternoon. Earlier, he made the remarks while addressing an Iftar party of Dhamrai Sadar Union Awami League.
In a 22-second viral video, he said Moaddes Hossain has become the upazila chairman. I had a lot of cooperation and hard work to make the chairman. That is why Allah has made him chairman. I believe, I want to say, your son Moaddes Hossain has become the Upazila Chairman.
It is learned that the election of Dhamrai Upazila Parishad was held on March 31, 2019. The Awami League nominated candidate in that election was Mizanur Rahman Mizan, the current Joint General Secretary of Dhaka District Awami League No. 1. President of Dhamrai Upazila Juba League Moaddech Hossain contested as the rebel candidate of Awami League. Awami League nominee Mizanur Rahman Mizan lost the election by 180 votes.
The then Awami nominated Upazila Chairman candidate Mizanur Rahman Mizan said, “I saw this statement.” My comment is that he should be expelled from the party. He has given an open statement that he has worked for the rebel candidate as the president of Upazila Awami League. I think he has no right to be the president of Upazila Awami League. I lost by a total of 180 votes. And in the center of Upazila Awami League President Abdul Malek, I lost by 600 votes. And he is still proud to say that he has supported the rebel candidate. He does not deserve to be in this position.
In this regard, Dhamrai Upazila Awami League president and former MP of Dhaka 20 constituency Abdul Malek said, “I have said in my speech that I cooperated when Mohaddes was elected as the vice chairman.”
In this regard, Dhaka District Awami League President and Dhaka 20 constituency MP Bir Muktijoddha Benazir Ahmed said, the Central Committee has instructions in this regard. Anyone who works or cooperates against an Awami League nominee from the post of Awami League will be expelled from the party.
