In the English Premier League, Arsenal has now become a tiger on paper. No previous nails, no teeth, no edges. But the paper showed on Wednesday night that even tigers sometimes come alive.
Michael Arteta’s side came to play at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea’s home ground, and gave the host Chelsea the same goal. Arsenal lost 4-2 to Chelsea in a dramatic match that went one step further and another setback.
With the victory in this match, the Gunners retained the 5th position in the points table. Their points in 32 matches are now 56. Chelsea 62 points. They are in third place. Tottenham Hotspur are in fourth place with 56 points. Man City are top with 6 points from 32 matches and Liverpool are second with 6 points.
Arsenal took the lead in the 13th minute through Eddie Cathy’s goal. Chelsea’s Timo Werner equalized in two minutes. Smith Rowe put Arsenal ahead in the 28th minute. Cesar Athpilicoeta equalized for Chelsea in the 32nd minute.
But Chelsea dropped out of the fight in the second half. In the 58th minute, Arsenal secured the victory with a goal by Kathia and Sakar in the combined time of the end of the match.
Chelsea are three with 72 points in 31 matches. Arsenal with 57 points in 32 matches. With this victory, the Gunners kept alive their hopes of playing in the Champions League next season. Tottenham are in fourth place with 58 points ahead of them. Man City is at the top with 6 points. Liverpool is in second place with 6 points.
Edward Enketiah scored a pair of goals for the Gunners. The other two goals were scored by Smith Roy and Bukayo Saka. Timo Warner and Cesar Azpilicueta scored twice for Chelsea.
Arsenal went ahead in the 13th minute of the match. Chelsea defender Christensen made a fatal mistake. Christensen got a long cross from Tabares from his own half, Enketiyah running after the ball. Enketia gets the ball because it is a bit slow when the pass is given to the goalkeeper. The English footballer found the net with his right foot shot after entering the box with control.
Chelsea did not take long to return to parity. The Blues returned to the match four minutes later with a goal from Timo Warner. Warner’s speed shot from the front of the box hit Arsenal defender White and the ball bounced off the net. Arsenal goalkeeper had nothing to do.
Arsenal took the lead again in the 28th minute. English midfielder Smith Roy found the net with a right foot shot from the front of the box in the team attack. Chelsea did not allow Arsenal to hold the lead for long. The Blues equalized again in the 32nd minute. Defender Caesar Azpilicueta hit the goal from the left side with a goal on the cross of Mason Mount.
Arsenal went ahead for the third time in the 53rd minute. Enketiyah completed his own pair of goals in addition to leading them with a great goal.
This is the first time an Arsenal footballer has scored a pair of goals against Chelsea since 2011. Robin van Persie scored a hat-trick against the Blues in 2011. Bukayo Sakar’s penalty kick added two minutes after the scheduled 90 minutes to give Arsenal a 4-2 victory.
